TikTok As A Search Engine & A Shopping Channel

August 03 04:48 2022

London, UK – August 2, 2022 – The use of TikTok goes beyond entertainment purposes. People are also using the platform as a search engine or to shop for items.

Many people are using TikTok as a search engine, whether it be to find the best bars in Central London or to find easy and quick recipes. TikTok has also started showing ‘suggested search terms’ on a video’s comment section too which allows users to search for wider content related to that particular topic.

But, the use of TikTok doesn’t end here. Using TikTok Shopping (linked with Shopify), users are now able to display and sell products through videos, TikTok Live or the ‘product catalogues’ tabs.

Linking these items to their online stores, this means people can shop on TikTok without actually leaving the app. However, TikTok sellers are encouraged to take further action for promoting their online store, one way in doing so is creating posts promoting your products, or even collaborating with influencers that you know will reach your target audience.

Speaking of this new use of TikTok for searches and shopping, Farhiya Ali, Leading Social Account Strategist at The Brains, says:

“If you are an avid social media user you would have probably heard the term “I don’t Google anymore. I use TikTok”. It’s no surprise that TikTok has now become a search engine and is likely to dethrone Google as the top search engine. What is more interesting is how TikTok has now become a shopping channel. It’s now become easier than ever for retailers in the e-commerce industry to promote their products with a simple video spanning a few seconds. With the platform itself known for helping businesses grow organically, it’s no surprise many businesses are taking to TikTok to save on their marketing budget and in driving sales.” – Farhiya Ali, Leading Social Account Strategist, The Brains
